HANCOCK TO LEAD STATE HOSPITAL ASSOCIATION

Larry D. Hancock, Chief Executive Officer of Intermountain Urban Central Region, has been elected to serve as Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Utah Hospitals and Health Systems Association (UHA). As chair, Hancock will lead the 21-member Board of Trustees in developing policy and direction for the Association for the 2008-2009 year.

Hancock was named as Chief Executive Officer of Intermountain Urban Central Region in January 2008. He joined Intermountain Urban Central Region in February 2007, working as the Chief Operating Officer. The Urban Central Region covers all of Salt Lake City and part of Davis County, serving the 1.5 million residents in the Salt Lake metropolitan area.

Hancock joined the UHA Board of Trustees in 2003 following his appointment as President, Utah Market for IASIS Healthcare. IASIS facilities include Davis Hospital, Jordan Valley Hospital, Pioneer Valley Hospital and Salt Lake Regional Medical Center. Prior to joining IASIS, Hancock served as President and later as Chief Executive Officer of Altius Health Plans from September 1998 until June 2003. In this capacity, he was responsible for overall operations of the 160,000-member health plan servicing the Utah area. Larry also served as President of American Family Care of Utah from 1996-1998.

Hancock’s hospital administrative experience includes serving as President/CEO and CFO of St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. His hospital experience also includes service at a variety of HCA-owned facilities, including Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn., Pioneer Valley Hospital in Salt Lake City, Lea Regional Hospital in Hobbs, N.M., and HCA Salt Lake City Division in Bountiful, Utah.

Hancock received his BS degree in Accounting and his Masters of Public Administration degree from Brigham Young University. He and his wife, Sherry, have five children and one grandchild.

“We are excited to welcome Larry as Chair of the UHA Board,” said UHA President Joseph M. Krella, FACHE. “His past leadership experience and background in hospital administration will be valuable assets as he takes on this new responsibility.”

UHA is a private, not-for-profit trade association representing Utah’s hospitals and health systems.
